The player on the right of the dealer 'cuts' the card deck.
The dealer then builds up two piles of 11 cards each, taking in turn each card from the bottom of the deck.
The two piles are put together to form the pot, taking care to put above the pile which received the first card.
The dealer now deals one card (clockwise) to each player, until everyone has a hand composed of 11 cards.

The remaining cards (the foundation deck) are placed face down at the center of the table.
The first card is put face up near the foundation to form the discard pile.
